About Independence PhotoHere at Indy, we begin with the basics. We learn the history of photography, 35mm camera parts and functions, composition, developing black and white film, and printing in the darkroom. As the students progress, we learn different manipulations and techniques. The program consists of 4 levels of photography ( beginning, intermediate, proficient, and advanced).
All students are required to have a camera and buy their own supplies. A description of each level and required supplies is listed below. |
Beginning |
Students need a 35mm film camera, 25 sheets of black and white photo paper and 2 rolls of black and white film, which can be purchased in a kit at Biggs camera in Charlotte or on line. Students will keep all work in a 3-ring binder.

Intermediate, Proficient, and Advanced |
Students need a 35mm camera ( a manual camera is preferred). They will need 50 sheets of 8 x 10 black and white photo paper and 5 rolls of black and white film. All work is kept is a 3- ring binder or portfolio.
